The Right Setup Makes All the Difference

A new computer is exciting — until you realize you need to transfer your files, set up your email, install your apps, connect your printer, and figure out where everything went. Done right, this process takes a couple of hours. Done wrong, it creates weeks of small frustrations.

  • Complete the initial setup wizard
  • Connect to your Wi-Fi network
  • Sign in with your Apple ID or Microsoft account

  • Set your display preferences (brightness, text size, night mode)

Phase 2: Data Transfer

  • Transfer files from your old computer (documents, photos, music)
  • Import your bookmarks and browser data
  • Set up your email accounts
  • Transfer your password manager data

Phase 3: Essential Apps

  • Install your web browser of choice
  • Set up your password manager
  • Install productivity apps (Office, Google Docs, etc.)
  • Install communication apps (Zoom, FaceTime, etc.)
  • Install any specialty apps you use regularly

Phase 4: Peripherals

  • Connect Bluetooth devices (keyboard, mouse, headphones)
  • Test your webcam and microphone

Phase 5: Security

  • Enable automatic updates
  • Set up your backup system (Time Machine, OneDrive, etc.)
  • Review privacy settings
